Will support my friend PM Modi during India’s G20 presidency: US President Joe Biden

United States President Joe Biden said that he was looking forward to supporting ‘his friend’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi during India’s G20 presidency. Biden said that the US and India will join hands while tackling challenges like climate, energy and food crises.

“The US and India to advance sustainable and inclusive growth while tackling challenges like climate, energy and food crises,” Joe Biden said.

“India is a strong partner of the United States, and I look forward to supporting my friend Prime Minister Modi during India’s G20 presidency. Together we will advance sustainable and inclusive growth while tackling shared challenges like the climate, energy, and food crises,” Joe Biden shared on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi had shared ‘a few thoughts’ on India assuming the G20 presidency and had tagged the US president in his tweet.

“Today, as India begins its G-20 Presidency, penned a few thoughts on how we want to work in the coming year based on an inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented, and decisive agenda to further global good.”

At the outset, PM Modi shared the country’s vision through G20 presidency and shared, “India’s G20 Presidency will work to promote the universal sense of one-ness. Hence our theme ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.

“This is not a slogan. It takes into account recent changes in human circumstances, which we have collectively failed to appreciate,” the prime minister said.

PM Modi recognised ‘climate change, terrorism and pandemics’ as main challenges and said they could be solved unitedly. On November 16, Modi had exhorted other G-20 leaders to vow to work together for digital inclusion over the next decade. “The principle of ‘data for development’ will be an integral part of the overall theme of our presidency, ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’,” he had said.

Taking over from Indonesia, India assumed a year-long presidency of the G20 on December 1. The G20 comprises 20 member states, including the European Union. It represents 85% of the world’s Gross Domestic Production.
